My overarching thoughts on the role of Senator or any representative is that the personal opinions of that individual should RARELY, if ever, come into play while representing that body of electors.
There are three forms of representative government commonly used in the United States, these three models include Delegate, Trustee, and Politico. Far too often, our representatives use the Trustee model or more often, the Politico model which means they feel that simply by their election to the role, it gives them the right to vote along party lines or that their own personal opinion trumps the peoples voice.
If elected, my pledge will be to only use the Delegate model and never be influenced by party or lobbyist nor any other outside pressures. I will never vote my personal opinions over the majority opinion of those who would elect me. NH is not a one-size fits-all state and your representation should reflect that.
With that said, here are some of my thoughts on recent issues in the news. As you can see some ideas and viewpoints lean conservative and some lean liberal.
The first thing that needs to be done is to get our fiscal house in order. No more kicking the can down the road, no more one-off bills filled with pork. The country should be run like we all attempt to run our own households, balanced budgets, period!
Abolish the IRS. There is no one life worth more than any other in this country so everyone must have skin in the game. Mandatory 10% income tax across the board regardless of income. With this model we could eliminate the overhead and uselessness of the IRS. The government already has the ability to acquire that tax directly from payroll such that April 15th can be a thing of the past. No more filling out complicated taxes forms and finding loopholes to reduce that marginal rate.
After that we can move to a consumption model for taxation. Example 1: If a person is a multi-millionaire and owns cars, boats, and a giant home then I propose they pay an excise and/or property tax on those items. To drive on roads and consume pleasure items then I propose a usage tax. Usage tax can be paid on everything except for food and clothing. Example 2: If a person is a hermit living in my tiny home and drives nowhere and doesn't have income other than a tiny nest egg in savings then they should be left to live as they chose and not have to pay additional taxes.
The government should not be the keeper of money earned by any person. Rather than the government taking ownership of my income, in the form of social security wages and taxes, it should be left to me and mandated to be put aside into a retirement account where the individual can see it grow and manage it how they see fit. It's your money, not the government's money to be used for whatever new program that needs to be funded! We must do away with the ponzi scheme that is Social Security and move to private ownership of retirement savings over time.
Same as with Social Security, I would like to see a move to privatization of healthcare funds and have it subsidized by the government through corporate taxation. When a child is born in the United States a private Health Savings Account (HSA) should be opened for that individual and seeding by the government. Over time, contributions can be made by employers or other pre-tax contributions. The government should contribute enough into each individual account to fund yearly health exam and twice-a-year dental exam. The government should also allow health insurers to sell their products across sate lines and all persons should be required to have some form of health insurance.
Let's combine the problem with have with manufacturing in the United States with the problem we have with mass illegal immigration. The United States should invest huge amounts of money in our border states to build manufacturing and housing facilities. Migrants who come to the US via illegal border crossing can then go straight to work and live in one of these facilities rather than being released into the country without a way to track whereabouts. The migrants will not be paid a wage, rather basic food and shelter will be provided in exchange for their service in one of these manufacturing facilities. They must stay and work in one of those facilities until their asylum dates as the penalty for illegal crossing. They would be free to leave at any point to their country of origin before the asylum hearing.
Most every app on the phone these days comes with some form of multi-factor authentication (MFA or 2FA). There is no reason why we can't make it easier to vote while at the same time eliminating the fraud inherent in our system today. Voting without ID, mass mail in voting, ballot harvesting are ALL fraught with fraud. I propose two forms of voting, in person with ID and by phone using some form of multi-factor authentication.
The country, and in fact the world, should begin a transition from fossil fuels but that transition should not happen as the expense of the current economies associated with the industry. The US should absolutely use any and all sources of fossil fuels currently available until the technologies and market forces catch up to alternative and green energy resources.
What a person does in the privacy of their own home should be nobody's business and as such one should be able to ingest whatever they want. The usage of drugs and alcohol should be legal. On the other hand I don't feel like the government should legalize the sale of same. The government should not promote nor profit from the sale of any intoxicants.
